We were really surprised with this fantastic British hard n' heavy band. We weren't aware that they existed from the mid-eighties and that they consist of AFTER DARK & BEOWULF members. According to the band's biography, they had released a single in the mid-eighties called 'Running away'. We have never seen that single in our entire life, so it must be pretty collectable to say the least...
Well, this CD contains 5 tunes from the mid to late eighties and all we can say is that they kick-ass. We were blown away by the track 'Running away'. A hard n' heavy anthem! The vocals as expected from a British band, are top notch. The band still goes strong.

Main Attraction is the brainchild of former On The Rise member Paul Bennech Lyngboe. Paul released the O.T.R album with Terje Eide in 2003 and got great reviews from the press.
That album was one of the strongest AOR albums that year.
Main Attraction has a sound that reminds of On The Rise with touches of Return (V) and Von Groove,some of the songs are slighty tougher and guitardriven that remind of the Canadian rockers Von Groove.
Paul has managed to come up with a strong album with great variation and mixed some straight ahead AOR-rockers with mid-tempo songs with layers of melodies.
The production is also crystal clear and the whole album is sounding very good,the start of the album is just brilliant with the rockers "Calm Before The Storm", "Remember" and "Until You".

Several lesser known – though no less able – groups were part of the label as well: Scarlet Red, Eternal Ryte and Rosanna’s Raiders. Rosanna’s Raiders was a group of particularly merit. A female fronted power trio from Australia, Rosanna’s Raiders recorded two albums on Pure Metal in Calling Down Fire (1987) and Clothed In Fire (1988) that, while not ranking with the heaviest releases of the era, delivered enough guitar driven edge to fall within the commercial hard rock and melodic metal categories. Those whose musical tastes trend towards Shout, Guardian, Angelica and Stryper, for instance, should be able to find a home in Rosanna’s Raiders. Likewise, we would expect fans of other groups of the time with female or male vocalists - Vixen, Barnabas, Scarlet Red and Ransom all come to mind – to embrace Rosanna’s Raiders as well.
The 2CD contains the 1987 release Calling Down Fire and the 1988 release Clothed In Fire (both originally on Pure Metal Records) in their entirety are both on disc 1. Disc 2 has the extremely collectible and previously impossible to find 1985 pro quality 10 song demo called We Are Raiders. Thoroughly remastered for brilliant sonic clarity.

Their only studio album ever, the '82 desert island classic "Winterhawk" is a good synonymous of the mark '10' in a dictionary. The history of Zion can be traced back to the first demo tape it recorded in 1982 before following up with a full length cassette only release entitled Rock For Eternity in 1984. The hard rocking South Dakota based outfit proceeded to sign with Image Records several years later, releasing its nine song David Zaffiro (Bloodgood) produced debut Thunder From The Mountain in 1989. At just the point it was getting ready to record its follow up sophomore effort, however, Zion fell apart before entering the studio and subsequently was never heard from again. Thrillseeker, the latest endeavor from Zion, is a very fine Retroactive Records compilation made up mostly of previously never heard before live tracks and the better material from the bands demo recordings from the eighties. The album closes with a remastered version of the song Thrillseeker taken from the Thunder From the Mountain studio release.
The live tracks, “Who Pulls The Strings”, “Kick In The Gates” and an instrumental – lead off the album and showcase the world-class hard rocking outfit at their best! Brilliant demos tracks follow, consisting of one song off the band’s original 1982 demo (“He’s Got Power”), two from Rock For Eternity (“Rock For Eternity” and “Your Love”) and two more from the demo sessions that led to Zion signing with Image (“Big Fall” and a different version of the TFTM number “Roll The Rock”). Reviewers are already claiming the demo tracks are every bit as good, if not better, than much of the material that made its way onto TFTM. “He’s Got The Power”, “Rock For Eternity” and “Your Love”, for example, all highlight notable melodies while proving literal jam sessions – Zion extends all three into the six and seven minute range – that allow guitarist David Moore to put on a virtual clinic with his fiery lead work and mega-tight sounding riffs. The gritty hard rocker “Big Fall”, finds vocalist Rex Scott showcasing his trademark raspy and gut level vocal delivery in no uncertain terms. The production values to the demo tracks might lack the smooth sounding touch of TFTM, but do a better job capturing the bands natural and all out raw energy. This is the way Zion truly sounded - gritty, scratchy and hard rocking - while delivering an abundance of energy at the same time.
Thrillseeker proves a noteworthy release offering material that was either previously unavailable or virtually impossible to find. Highly recommended for fans of gritty hard rocking outfits such as X-Sinner, Whitecross, AC/DC, Cinderella, early Poison, and Bride. Of note, singer REX SCOTT went on to be (and is currently) lead vocalist for X-SINNER.

When CRADLE OF FILTH were probably going to school, they had an album called "Nine inches of god" with a pretty blasphemous cover. They would dress-up like zombies and get on stage to play their heavy metal perversions. All in all, this special quinter delivered nothing more and nothing less than first class straight forward heavy metal, with intense riffing and great vocals by The Duke. Their only LP came out in 1986 on the band's own label but the band called it quits shortly thereafter. Hopefully, after 18 years the album is available again on CD!

This long-forgotten band from the N.W.O.B.H.M. is finally un-earthed for the first time ever since the 80’s. They were originally called HEAVY THUNDER and then quickly changed their name to be the very first band with the name SLAYER! Some of this album contains songs when they were called SLAYER, the others of course were eventually DRAGONSLAYER. SLAYER/DRAGONSLAYER never really had a record deal and only one official release (as DRAGONSLAYER), which was a 3 song 7” Single/E.P. back in 1984. This release combines their efforts from their 1982 Demo, 1984 7” Single, and 1986 Demo. For the first time ever all of these songs will be officially released still in their original quality. It’s a shame this band was never picked up by a label back then because if there ever was a truly underground N.W.O.B.H.M. band that was looked over, it was Dragonslayer! There’s a huge early JUDAS PRIEST influence here, also the usual SCORPIONS, UFO, DEEP PURPLE, SABBATH influence as well. I really think the songwriting is amazing, layered with solid high vocals, catchy riffs, and memorable choruses, you know the stuff the N.W.O.B.H.M. was built on. For the first time ever DRAGONSLAYER would love to consider this their very first album, but really it’s a double album!
This CD contains 16 songs and comes with a great 12paged booklet which contains lyrics, bio and many photos from the days that DRAGONSLAYER were alive & kicking!!

Classic 1980s British trad metal with Allan Marsh on lead vocals. These NWoBHM legends started their recording career under the banner of Genghis Khan before changing their name to Tokyo Blade. The legendary Maryland Doom Metal scene was and still is filled with monster bands! ASYLUM (who later changed their name to UNORTHODOX because their old Record Label requested it) is yet another underground gem, never officially released. With only copies of this tape being spread (known as the 1985 Demo) around in trading circles since the time of its recording in 1985, this was one of the harder demos to find. Now for the first time in 23 years, this recording is being officially released. What a treat this is for 80’s metal fans too because what most people don’t know is that Dale Flood (guitarist/vocalist) is an absolute magician on the axe. His style derives from Progressive 70’s Rock like RUSH, YES, DEEP PURPLE, etc mixed with the thunderous and mighty Doom/Heavy riffs from likes of PENTAGRAM, BLACK SABBATH, MOTORHEAD, etc. This is all played together with an amazing rhythm section and who I think is one of the most underrated drummers in Heavy Metal, Ronnie Kalimon. This album has its own mark and sound in the underground and believe me this is no carbon copy of any other band; their unique sound speaks for itself and stands alone! The amazing thing about this recording is that is sounds fresh and new even though it’s 23 years old. If you love 70’s Heavy Rock, 80’s Heavy Metal and Doom, you won’t believe your ears!
This is the very first ASYLUM demo released with all its flaws from low budget recording and if you like this, there’s plenty more in the ASYLUM vault to be released in the future.

HAMMERS OF MISFORTUNE hail from San Francisco, an Epic/Power/Black Metal-band, that sounds damn original. Different elements from all kinds of Metal-sub-genres are united into an album that at the beginning is hard to listen to, but it grows on you.
A complex Fantasy-story has been used and each character has its own voice. THE BASTARD is performed by Mike Scalzi (SLOUGH FEG), whose voice is clean and heroic. Then there is THE TYRANT, sung by John (no family name stated) with a harsh shrieking voice and THE CHAOS GODDESS, sung by a certain Janis, the only female voice. The sound is full of different tempos, Folk-parts and much atmosphere. I'm really reminded of an original version of Obscure Metal!
So all of you, who love polished Straight Metal, will run screaming, but fans of obscure acts like CIRITH UNGOL, MANILLA ROAD, BROCAS HELM or THE LORD WEIRD SLOUGH FEG have to get this one.

Iron Man's guitar player/song writer Al Morris III has been writing the most savage/heaviest sounding guitar riffs for over 2 decades now! I cannot stress enough to Heavy Metal fans out there that if you haven't heard Iron Man, find something FAST! You're missing out on some of the most mind-bending groove-laden (Maryland) Doom metal around. It's a shame they never got the recognition they deserve, yet! I'm hoping to help change that for them for their forthcoming album "I Have Returned". I've listened to this album a million times already and I can firmly tell everyone this is the very best underground recording I've ever heard on an independant label. This recording sounds like it should be on a major label and I didn't even mention the superior songwriting yet! The songs are very well written and catchy, I'm convinced there's not a stale riff in Al Morris's soul! The man is a guitar god!! Louis is a top-notch bass player, Dex's drums are thunderous and just about as balanced as it gets, and Joe's vocal performance is far beyond my expectation. I'm incredibly honored the band and their manager had faith in me to release their album and it's going to be a pleasure to read, hear, and see the reactions of metal fans far and wide with this release. I think this could have a MAJOR impact on the Heavy Metal scene in 2009.
