Sometimes you lose faith. Labels like Noise, Steamhammer, Mausoleum, Earthshaker, and the GAMA label group released mediocre or worse albums alongside many important and good ones in the eighties. Meanwhile, a talented and captivating band called SQUADRON from the Stuttgart area remained undiscovered (to this day). Even on Encyclopedia Metallum, there is no entry for the two demos they recorded in 1984 and 1985. Not yet. The band was founded in 1983, influenced by Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Warrior, Manowar, Ozzy Osbourne, and Dio. One of their first shows was as the opening act for Tyrant. They quickly gained a reputation as a gigantic live band, especially since they paid attention not only to sophisticated songs, but also to their outfits and showmanship. Just a few months later, 400 fans came to the Neckerhalle in Esslingen, even though Accept were playing practically around the corner that same day. They also broke the attendance record at "Die Röhre" in Stuttgart, where they put on a big show after their second demo. Naturally, larger labels also contacted them, but a contract never materialized. After a festival with Rage, Veto, and Stranger, as well as a few shows with Czakan, the band called it quits in 1987. Michael Moretto subsequently joined Kymera to replace Andi Deris, who had left for Pink Cream 69. Klaus Sperling is still active in the business today and has been with the Nitrogods since 2011. He became known for his drumming with Primal Fear, Sinner, MP, and Freedom Call.
The material has been lovingly restored and mastered and can now be heard for the first time on CD and LP. The booklet and LP inlay contain liner notes and tons of photos and illustrations. This band could have gone far back then...
